My essay in this book, "The New Visual Abnormal," tells the story of my journey to studying, practicing, and teaching graphic design. I also share my methods for including identity as an essential and natural component in visual communication education. In addition to this essay, I interviewed Emory Douglas, the former Black Panther newspaper designer and illustrator, for one of the forewords.
